TRAINING FROM THE EXPERTS

Our online training modules are designed to quickly get you up to speed so you can get the most out of your FreeNAS system. Each training module is topic-specific, under an hour in length, and cuts directly to the core of the information you need to become an expert in FreeNAS and ZFS. Take the modules you need, on your schedule.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Network, system, application, and storage administrators. Anyone who wants to get the most out of their FreeNAS system.

ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR

Michael Dexter brings four years of in-the-trenches FreeNAS and ZFS support experience to iX University, backed by over 25 years with UNIX. You probably know Michael from his open source community work surrounding BSD UNIX, file systems, and hypervisors.

Each module is approximately 30 minutes in length.

Module 101: Introduction to FreeNAS

Introduces iXsystems, the features of the FreeNAS® operating system, and the OpenZFS file system. This module also discusses best practices for planning your storage layout and for avoiding data loss

Module 102: Getting Started with FreeNAS

Provides all the information needed to get a new FreeNAS system up and running and storing data. This includes using the FreeNAS Wizard for initial configuration, navigating the FreeNAS administrative interface, and performing basic management tasks.

Module 201: Advanced FreeNAS Setup

Introduces more complex setup and storage scenarios, including updating the FreeNAS system, determining if an L2ARC or SLOG are needed, setting up user accounts, boot environments, and configuring services.

Module 202: FreeNAS Data Protection

Delve into the essentials of planning and configuring file system snapshots, using clones, and replicating snapshots to another system.

Module 203: Sharing Protocols

Learn how to plan, configure, and troubleshoot NFS, SMB, and iSCSI shares.

Module 204: Advanced Network Configuration

Learn when to use and how to configure link aggregations, vLANS, and static routes.

iX University training modules require a basic knowledge of networking and storage concepts. If you don’t have this background or would like a refresher, we recommend that you first take modules 101 and 102.

Some modules also require access to a FreeNAS system. You can download FreeNAS for free and install it either onto hardware or into a virtual environment.
